Student Affiliation Program

At NSPT, we don’t come to work…we come to play!

With the Student Affiliation Program, our experienced staff provides mentorship and training to graduate level students from universities and colleges in the fields of:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech-language pathology
  • Behavioral therapy

Our program gives our therapists an opportunity to develop a student’s clinical and professional skills. Each discipline incorporates criteria from AOTA, APTA and ASHA.

If you are interested in joining our Student Affiliation Program, please ask your school supervisor to email us.

  • Exposes students to current, evidence-based physical therapy practices in a pediatric outpatient clinic.
  • Provides students with experiences that will prepare them to work as entry-level therapists.
  • Allows students to explore specific client populations and areas of interest.
  • Enables students to gain the clinical hours needed to meet the requirements for the certification and licensure.

Before joining our Student Affiliation Program, students must complete pre-requisite coursework required by their university and department. Students must have gained the theoretical knowledge necessary to understand the disabilities they will encounter. In addition, they must have observed and worked directly with clients of various ages, presenting a wide range of disorder types and levels of severity.

We ask that students provide:

  • Affiliation Agreement from the school
  • An updated background check (must be completed within three months prior to their start date)
  • An updated 5 panel drug screen (must be completed within one month prior to their start date)
  • Updated immunization record
  • Coverage of Insurance from their school

Faculty or administrators can establish a North Shore Pediatric Therapy/University Affiliation Agreement consistent with the university’s course description, course objectives, procedures, and expectations. Based on the student’s application, North Shore Pediatric Therapy will assess the availability of locations and complete the placement process.

Interested in volunteering?

Volunteers are responsible for assisting our therapists in various activities, while gaining valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a clinic. While volunteering, students can obtain observation hours. We currently allow a maximum of 10 hours in total. Volunteer requests get busy during summer, spring and winter breaks. Please email three weeks in advance to check on availability. Learn more about volunteering here.
